Last Mile Health

Last Mile Health saves lives in the world’s most remote communities. For the past twelve years, the organization has partnered with governments to design, scale, and advocate for national networks of professional community health workers to extend the reach of the health system to the last mile. In Liberia, Last Mile Health partnered with the Ministry of Health to establish the historic National Community Health Assistant Program to recruit, train, equip, manage, and pay community members to provide lifesaving healthcare to their neighbors in remote communities as community health workers.

To date, Liberia’s community health workers have conducted 1.3 million patient visits and now serve over 707,000 people. To open-source the methods of the organization and aligned partners, Last Mile Health launched the Community Health Academy in 2017, which partners with Ministries of Health to strengthen the clinical skills of community health workers and the capacity of health systems leaders to build higher quality community health systems through digital education.
